The Liberian Mural is a magnificent example of Liberian artistry not only because of its beauty and grandeur but it is even more special as many works of art were lost during the long Liberian civil War. Through its vivid imagery and intricate detail, Yeagon’s relief invites viewers to embark on a journey of discovery, understanding and co nnection. It stands as a testament to the power of art to illuminate the past, inspire the present and shape the future. The owner: Maria King Wallace, an entrepreneur and business woman, spent 28 years in West Africa, ten of them in Liberia and has collected many exceptional pieces of African art.
Of Latin, East Indian, and Afro-Caribbean descent, Maria Elena lived and worked in Africa for 28 years, spending years in Liberia, Tanzania, Guinea Bissau, Ghana, and Benin whilst traveling to eleven other African countries for business. She represented and helped to establish foreign companies for whom she set up and managed a chain of American-style stores in Liberia and a British commodity trading company. Maria Elena operated her own businesses, including Pandora Restaurant and Sporting Goods Shop in Liberia’s banking center and SALIB in Benin.
